Update from Lahore: The underpass named “Lal Shahbaz Qalander Underpass” which is being built by LDA at Firdous Market is scheduled to be completed before 30th November 2020. The construction of the underpass has taken 6 months from the time of commencement. LDA authorities have worked on it tirelessly even with Corona Pandemic and are all set to open before 30th November 2020. The project was hit by delays due to CORONA Pandemic for three months but the authorities are working hard to complete it before 30th November 2020.

The official length of the underpass is 540 meters and is two lane dual carriageway which will reduce the traffic jams that the area was affected by. The specialty of the project is that it manages water disposal and will accommodate approximately 90,000 plus vehicles.

The current Chief Minister of Punjab Mr. Usman Buzdar had visited the site and was unhappy with the progress hence removed the chief engineer from the project. He also gave show cause notices to the Director General & Additional Director General of LDA (Lahore Development Authority) for delays and slow construction work.

The Government of Punjab under PTI has saved approximately PKR 130 million of tax payers money by tendering the project at PKR 960 million. The initial budget for the project was set to PKR 1.76 million. The project will be completed under the initial pricing and completed at the targeted rate.

The underpass will be a sie of relief for the travelers who were annoyed by the traffic jams that took place at the junction on daily basis costing millions in petrol, time and accidents that were a regular part of passing through there.
